Land use, land-use change, and forestry (LULUCF) is defined by the UN Climate change secretariat as “A greenhouse gas inventory sector that covers emissions and removals of greenhouse gases resulting from direct human-induced land use, land-use change and forestry activities.”  Climate and land use are inextricably linked in an ongoing symbiotic relationship.  Understanding how climate change affects our ability to use the land and how our use of land in turn affects climate is essential to our comprehension of ecosystem services as well as our options for the future.
