Speaker Biography: Daniel Donato, Research Ecologist, US Forest Service

Daniel Donato, Ph.D., is a Research Ecologist with the U.S. Forest Service’s Pacific Southwest Research Station in Hilo, Hawaii.  His current work focuses on carbon storage and dynamics in Southeast Asian forests, including peat swamps and mangroves.  Dr. Donato has worked on forest biomass and carbon quantification for over a decade, and has recently  been working with a team of scientists in Indonesia, refining techniques for measuring carbon storage in wetland forests of Java, Borneo, Sumatra, and Sulawesi.  Dr. Donato holds B.Sc. degrees in Forestry and Oceanography from the University of Washington, and a Ph.D. in Forest Science from Oregon State University.
